Smart & Healthy Kids Day is a fun, educational, healthy, family back to school event catering to low-income East Harris County students and families. The event includes a blood drive, health fair, empowering words, fun zone, and complimentary school supplies for attendees. This event doubles as a food-raiser as participants are asked to bring canned food items to be donated to local food pantry. This event provides a forum for over 500 people to receive critical services such as health screening, immunizations, positive direction and other resources. To date, over 1,000 cans have been donated on behalf of local youth and families.
Hope for the Holidays (see below) provides families of public school children with food baskets for the Thanksgiving Holiday. EHCEC hosts canned food drives on public school campuses to engage children in giving back to the community. This program serves students in the Crosby, Sheldon, Channelview and Galena Park school districts.
